Asia Biogas has a number of investment partners:  Finnfund a development financial institution from Finland, Metro Machinery from Thailand, Toyota Tsusho from Japan and Al Tayyar Energy.  

Our clients include leading cassava starch and palm oil industry groups in Thailand and Indonesia.  We also provide feasibility study and early project development services to Asian Development Bank.

Our financing partners include GuarantCo, an infrastructure financier part of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG), and Indonesia Eximbank. 

Asia Biogas thanks DEDE in Thailand and EEP Mekong, an initiative of the Finland Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for grant aid assistance for its Rayong CBG project.

Equipment and service partners include PT Surya Max Industries from Indonesia and AtmosPower from India.

Carbon market buyers include Swedish Energy Agency for UNFCCC registered Certified Emission Reductions and 3 Degrees for iRECs.

Milestones & Awards

2000 – CleanThai first established in Thailand to develop biogas projects

2002 – CleanThai completes Thailand’s first Build Own Operate Transfer biogas project in Korat

2003 – Thai Biogas Energy Co Ltd (TBEC) formed by CleanThai with private equity backing

2005 – Asia Biogas Co Ltd established with investment from Trading Emissions plc

2010 – Asia Biogas reorganized under Asia Biogas Singapore holding company  1) ASEAN Energy Awards – Best Project On-Grid, 2) Thailand Energy Awards – Best Project On-Grid

2011-12 – Following a collapse in the carbon market, Asia Biogas focused on Thailand and Indonesia and withdrew from Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam.  Minority interest in TBEC divested

2013 – Management buyout of Asia Biogas from Trading Emissions plc

2014  Increases shareholding in Thai biogas project buying out Tokyo Electric  Thailand Energy Awards – Best Project Off-Grid

2015-16 – Asia Biogas completes new biogas to power projects in Krabi, Thailand and Malang, Indonesia  1) Frost & Sullivan – Best Bioenergy Company, 2) APAC Business Insider Award – Best Renewable Energy Company 

2017-18 – Asia Biogas acquires a controlling interest and is reunited with TBEC, owner of a portfolio of BOOT biogas projects  Frost & Sullivan Thai Excellence Awards – Best Biogas Company  

2019 – TBEC completes first Compressed Biomethane Gas project in Rayong, Thailand and successfully concludes a debt restructuring extending debt maturity to 2028   1) Frost & Sullivan Thai Excellence Awards – Best Biogas Company, 2) World Biogas Summit – Best International Knowledge Exchange, 3) Thai Department of Industrial Works – CSR Award 

2020  Asia Biogas takes over management of AT Biopower, owner and operator of a 20 MW rice-husk biomass power plant in Pichit, Thailand.  A pioneering biomass power plant registered with UNFCCC as a Clean Development Mechanism project
